About us

The Hotel Madeira is one of the exemplary hotels of 1970 recreated with the spirit of the early days of tourism on this island to welcome travelers, who sought refuge in the mild climate and safety to rest. With a history closely linked to the island of Madeira itself, in this case Madeira embroidery, the architect Chorão Ramalho wanted to design the Hotel in the same way embroidery was represented, for its greatness, delicacy and beauty.

Inspired by tradition, a work of modern architecture was recreated and converted into what it is even today: a home of memories.

History

Built in 1970, Hotel Madeira recreates the spirit of the early days of tourism on this island to welcome travellers, who sought refuge in the mild climate and safety to cure illnesses and rest.
As part of this project, Hotel Madeira sought to meet the needs of the market in terms of facilities, service, and positioning, and so the theme of the traditional Madeiran concept emerged, the famous embroidery, which at the time was privileged for its commercial importance, worldwide status, purity, and artistic perfection.
And so it was that the architect Chorão Ramalho wanted to design the Hotel, in the same way that embroidery was known, for its greatness, delicacy and history. Inspired by tradition, a work of modern architecture was recreated, and he is recognised as one of the most important figures in Portuguese architecture of the second half of the 20th century.
